Thonet Garden S 40

Garden chair S 40 by Mart Stam

The clear, reserved and yet highly characteristic form of the cantilever chair – referring to the Bauhaus classic S 43, which Stam also designed – makes it an exemplary design in the spirit of modernism. This chair was first presented under the model name B 33 g (g = garden) in the 1935 Thonet catalogue. With its gentle flexing effect it offers ideal seating comfort while communicating a sense of lightness. The S 40 is the perfect chair for outdoor dining on warm summer evenings – not just on milestone birthdays.

The curved wooden slats of garden chair S 40 are made of solid Iroko, an African wood with a high density and weather resistance (FSC seal). It looks similar to teak and has a smooth, even surface. All wooden parts are oiled for protection. The frame is made of polished weather-resistant stainless steel. The chair is available with or without armrests. Together with the garden table S 1040, the chairs of programme range S 40 form a harmonious ensemble.

The classic patio table - beautiful, simple, and robust

The classic patio table - beautiful, simple, and robust. The table and S 40 chairs form a harmonic combination for outdoor use. All materials are weather resistant. The wood laths are made of solid Iroko, a dense African wood that is highly weather resistant (FSC seal). It looks like teak and has a smooth, even surface. We oil the laths for protection.

Iroko wooden laths (78 x 78 cm or 78 x 150 cm), base frame of tubular stainless steel or frames colour coated with “ThonetProtect®” surface. Tabletops exposed solid core laminate (100 x 100 cm or 100 x 160 cm) in combination with colour-coated frames. We recommend the chairs S 33, S 34 and S 533 from the “Thonet All Seasons” programme range to match the S 1040 with colour coated base frame; or chair S 40 with Iroko wooden elements to match the tubular stainless steel base frame.
