A favourite piece to sink into: The Thonet lounge chair 808
With the programme range 808, the Munich based design studio Formstelle has created a lounge chair that combines maximum comfort with numerous possibilities for individualisation.
The lounge chair 808 plays with the contrast between protective shell and openness. Its characteristic appearance is created through a consistent reinterpretation of the classic wing chair – the upper backrest is reminiscent of a protective collar. The shell embraces the person sitting in the chair and communicates a feeling of security. “It was our goal to design a piece of furniture that embraces the user, radiates inner calm and inspires,” says Formstelle. The 808 provides plenty of room for various seating positions.
The second striking characteristic is the comfortable upholstery that is reminiscent of waves. The soft inner core with the casual cushion look establishes a suspenseful contrast with the outer shell. Our upholstery department together with Formstelle tested various material combinations, aiming to guarantee maximum comfort. The result is a well-balanced mix of finely coordinated materials.
A colour and material concept that Formstelle exclusively developed for the lounge chair 808 completes the highly detailed and well-conceived design. The designers developed a distinct fabric for the lounge chair 808 in collaboration with the textile manufacturer Rohi: “Soul” is available in thirteen colours and impresses with the use of high-quality new wool yarn and a multidimensional honeycomb-like structure that lends depth to the fabric. Customers can choose from six different colour worlds, each of them consisting of the material options leather, fabric and formed fleece and the matching ornamental seams. For the development of the six colour worlds UNDER, ISLAND, AIR, TROPIC, URBAN and GREY the designers were inspired by places that do not have distinct boundaries such as underwater worlds, landscapes and urban spaces.
