The new hotel “Motel One Wien-Staatsoper” is located a few steps from the opera house, which serves as its name donor. The historical and listed building from the turn of the century is already the fourth hotel of the Motel One Group in Vienna and houses 400 rooms. The architects took great care to preserve the art nouveau character and combined it with timeless interior design furnishings.
The “One Lounge” interprets the classic Vienna style in a new way: in the bar and breakfast area, the subject of the state opera and ballet is addressed with pictures of dancers on the walls and video presentations of dance performances. Thonet bentwood classics gather in the breakfast room: three “knot chairs” (model 214 K) are mixed in with the 20 models of the traditional Vienna Coffee House Chair 214 and the six bentwood chairs 233. These special editions with a bentwood knot in the right front leg playfully and understandably represent the tradition of bending wood, which was born in Vienna in 1859 thanks to Michael Thonet. Thonet classics are also used at the long bar: 20 bentwood barstools 204 M with a moulded seat invite guests to spend some time. All Thonet models used in the “Motel One Wien-Staatsoper” are stained black and discretely fit in with the hotel chain’s typical turquoise colour concept.
