“Black or White” in the greenery

Modern architecture meets minimalist design in Saint-Germain-en-Laye in the western suburbs of Paris. The extension of a private house 19 km from the French capital was realised in 2013 and nestles into the hill beneath the honourable home of the Singe family, becoming one with nature. The generous window facades offer a panoramic view of the garden and immerse the rooms in bright daylight. The architectural office Hertweck Devernois Architectes Urbanistes from Versailles met the family’s desire for more space and the preservation of the splendid garden.
The clear, reduced formal language of the desk S 285 designed by Marcel Breuer from the “Black or White” edition especially comes into its own due to the strong incidence of light. The completely black version of the table is complemented by the matching tubular steel luminaire LUM 2.0. The S 64 cantilever chair – also designed by Marcel Breuer and also in black – rounds off the ensemble and the entire room-nature structure with its aesthetic clarity.
