How does a globally leading high-tech group set up and furnish in a historical postal building? The successful design concept for the Zurich office of the IT company provides the answer: it chose Thonet furniture from all epochs for the interior. Bentwood classics including the 233 P from 1895 are used, along with contemporary designs. Bright colours set the tone in the modern office landscape. The armchair range 860 with its dynamic and simultaneously residential formal language as well as the bentwood sofa 2002 in yellow and turquoise represent perfect seating furniture for the lounge area. The seating groups of range S 650 – a reinterpretation of a design from the 1950s – also offer space for relaxation or talks with colleagues. Thonet classics, including the famous export chair 218 with the legendary “hairpin” in the backrest and the elegant armrest chair 209, were also used in contemporary, fresh colours such as lemon yellow and reed green. Entirely in the spirit of Modernism, the architects also used tubular steel furniture, whose aesthetic straightforwardness forms a suspenseful visual contrast with the many playful details. The stackable chairs of range S 160 with removable writing panel are beautifully designed, comfortable and versatile, and can be linked easily, safely, in a space-saving way without tools. In addition to Mart Stam’s tubular steel classic S 43, various versions of the filigree desk S 1200 provide flexible workplaces.
