BERLINER ENSEMBLE

Thonet meets theatre: the theatre of the Berliner Ensemble is located on Bertold Brecht Platz in the immediate vicinity of the banks of the Spree River. The famous theatre is contained in a neo-baroque building dating back to 1892 based on a design by architect Heinrich Seeling. After a renovation, baroque opulence now meets modern ambience and timeless furnishings inside. The architectural office Ortner & Ortner Baukunst realised the design of two new theatres and corresponding foyers in the former rehearsal building and used three different Thonet chair ranges.

Around 150 stackable chairs with armrests from range S 162 F with especially produced matte chrome-plated frames and black-grey seat shells as well as eight bar stools 107 H in the same colour were used in the baroque salon, forming an effective contrast with the decorative design of the space. The focus in the theatre’s café area is on a modern tone-on-tone colour concept, which is picked up by 80 light-grey bistro chairs, also from range 107 by Robert Stadler.
