The meat and wine restaurant “Poplier” is located in the idyllic Pajottenland on the outskirts of the small Belgian town of Gooik. The roughly 100 year-old building was completely renovated in 2016 and transformed into a modern restaurant with rustic elements. Here, master chef Patrick de Gendt offers a culinary journey through Europe’s best meat regions with different types of steaks – from Galician Blond to Scottish Black Angus to Limousin beef from the French region of the same name. The dishes are paired with exclusive wines, selected by Yanick Dehandschutter, the “Sommelier of the Year 2015”.
The owners, Jos Sluys and Isabelle Deurbroeck, designed the interior of the Popelier with an exciting material mix of natural brick walls, elegant black leather benches and a rustic wood floor. 86 Thonet chairs model 404 SPF are grouped around rectangular and round tables of various sizes with dark wooden surfaces. The comfortably upholstered seats of the black stained chairs refer to the leather of the benches and create a harmonious ensemble. As a special highlight, the restaurant’s logo was milled into the backrests of the chairs. Food and drinks can be enjoyed on the heated summer terrace with a beautiful view of meadows and fields.
