Grätzlhotel Vienna

Interior design: Architekturbüro BWM

The Grätzlhotel in Vienna opened 18 new suites in December 2015 distributed across three districts. A modern and unconventional concept stands behind this hotel: the small and cosily designed apartments are all located in former shops, which radiate the charm of their original use and tell stories. All of the rooms were individually furnished by the BWM architectural office and equipped with kitchenettes. For the three suites “Die Knopfmacherin” located around the “Karmelitermarkt” in Vienna’s 2nd district, where a former office of Austria’s last mother-of-pearl turnery was formerly housed, and for “Der Elektriker”, they chose Thonet furniture – matching the approach of the two managing directors Fanny Holzer-Lusching and Theresia Kohlmayr to combine contemporary design with traces of the past. Those who spend a night at “Die Knopfmacherin” can get comfortable for breakfast or dinner on four colourful model S 43 cantilever chairs from the “Classics in Colour” collection. Another highlight of the 32 m² suite is the tubular steel chair S 411 with a bright red frame. In the “Der Elektriker” suite, an ensemble of white wooden chairs is grouped around the black table 1404 by Stefan Diez - the typical Vienna Coffee House Chair 214 is joined by the contemporary models 404 by Stefan Diez and 107 by Robert Stadler, both of which were inspired by model 214.
