Green Globe Gold Member Status for Thonet

Frankenberg based company honoured for outstanding sustainability efforts.   Thonet, the German furniture manufacturer, has been awarded Gold Member status by Green Globe. Gold Member status is given to companies that demonstrate a continuous commitment to sustainability.  The Gold label is awarded to companies that are certified for five consecutive years with the internationally recognized Green Globe Standard, which entails an extraordinarily responsible handling not just of natural resources but also human resources and local communities.    Mirko Nordheim, Director Quality Management, describes the important achievements of Thonet over the past five years: “With our sustainable change-over to 100% power from renewable energy sources we have paved the way for sustainable, future-oriented production. After an energy audit in compliance with 16247-1, more potential for improvement was identified and we will be intensively dealing with that in 2016.” The issue of sustainability and durability is an essential benchmark of the product philosophy of the manufacturer of famous design classics including the Vienna Coffee House Chair 214. Nordheim comments: “Maintaining the highest quality with regard to selection of materials, production and also repairs is a top priority and ensures that our furniture can be long-lasting companions over many years. They are made of individual components that can be replaced and recycled if needed.” The furniture manufacturer has clearly defined sustainability goals and has launched various initiatives in its product development, production and management divisions in order to comply with its corporate responsibility and self-image. You can read about these projects on the website.

The “Green Globe” certification programme defines the highest level of sustainable management in the tourism, hospitality, events and various industry sectors. The member companies are regularly audited by independent auditors to guarantee compliance with the internationally recognised standards.
