It’s getting cosy: Thonet presents lounge chair 808 and much more at imm cologne 2015

Visitors of the Cologne furniture trade fair can relax perfectly at booth E21 in hall 3.2: there, Thonet presents the strikingly designed lounge chair 808 by the Formstelle design team and the limited edition of the S 826 rocking chair in the “Thonet Collect” series as new products. Added are the new versions of the bentwood classics – among them the famous Vienna coffee house chair 214 – that premiere as members of the “Pure Materials” series. Despite the wide range of collections presented by Thonet at imm cologne, a distinct line can be identified: all materials are coordinated in such a way that the most diversified products can be harmoniously combined.

A favourite piece to sink into: the lounge chair 808

The new lounge chair 808 by Formstelle plays with the contrast between protective shell and openness. As a modern reinterpretation of the classic wing chair, it offers a place for withdrawal and rest. Its protective seat shell is covered with upholstery that is reminiscent of waves; thanks to a specially developed integrated spring it can be moved into various seat and backrest inclinations. The new program thus promises maximum comfort. Visually, too, the 808 presents itself as a flexible piece: the designers based their design concept on six different colour worlds for which leather, formable fleece and fabric are used. Formstelle exclusively developed the fabric “Soul” in cooperation with the textile manufacture Rohi for the chair 808. Three different frame versions (wood with bentwood elements, flat steel and bent tubular steel) and a footstool round off the programme.

Collector’s item: S 826 from the “Thonet Collect” series

The “Thonet Collect” series, which brings together limited editions of Thonet classics, also invites visitors to relax with the two new versions of the tubular steel rocking chair S 826 by Ulrich Böhme (design 1971). Thanks to its base frame made of bent tubular steel, it offers an especially flexing comfort. Now, two new versions are available in a limited edition with a frame in blackened chrome and covers made either from the new Pure Materials leather “Olive Galicia” or a soft, white fabric by Rohi. The design of the S 826 combines two traditions of the Thonet brand: its form is based on the classic bentwood rocking chair no. 1, while its materials are oriented towards the tubular steel designs from the Bauhaus era.

Bentwood in “Pure Materials”

In addition to the new designs, Thonet presents current versions of its bentwood classics: at the trade fair, chairs 209, 214, 215 and 233 are shown for the first time in the “Pure Materials” series. Natural ash unites with the vegetable dyed leather “Olive Galicia”. Over the course of time, a patina develops due to the untreated natural materials, providing each piece with an individual look. The series, which stands out due to an especially careful handling of materials, was introduced two years ago for the Thonet tubular steel classics.

Harmonious duo

Elegant and minimalist – this is what the “Black or White” edition represents. Marcel Breuer’s desk S 285 is available along with the standing luminaire LUM 2.0 as a special package until 30 April 2015 – completely in black or white for a special price in specialist shops. For this fine version, the tubular steel frame and wooden elements are lacquered in the same colour, creating a striking visual effect.

Thonet offers inspirations for the living segment

Following the motto “Individuality is our standard”, Thonet offers products and inspirations that adjust to the most differing ideas and spatial situations. The well-balanced combination of traditional and contemporary furniture is possible without any problem thanks to the recurring characteristics and forms the foundation for modern and tasteful interior furnishing.
