Thonet All Seasons Programm S 33

January 2016

In fine shape both indoors and outdoors: Thonet presents versatile new products at imm cologne 2016

Designing entire living environments with Thonet – the traditionally pioneering Frankenberg-based company has made this project a top priority. With imm cologne 2016 (18-24 January) this process extends outdoors, into the garden and onto the terrace. In hall 3.2 at stand E 21 the new “Thonet All Seasons” outdoor collection offers a surprise to visitors, providing selected tubular steel classics from the Bauhaus era with an impressive new look and all-weather finish. Meanwhile, for the interior living segment, the new solid wood table 1060 designed by Jorre van Ast epitomises modern lightness and, with its bent details, pays homage to the company’s bentwood tradition. The wooden furniture programme range 860 first presented at the Milan Salone del Mobile in 2015 has been expanded: a rocking chair, a bench and two side tables were added. And, last but not least, the new lamp collection including the small KUULA table lamp, creates a luminous atmosphere at the Thonet stand – and in living environments.

“Thonet All Seasons”: the all-weather collection

With the new outdoor series “Thonet All Seasons”, Thonet allows design lovers that opportunity to take their favourite tubular steel classics outdoors into the garden or onto the terrace for the first time. Thanks to special technology, selected icons from the Bauhaus era including chairs S 33 and
S 34 by Mart Stam, the lounge chair S 35 and side table B 9 by Marcel Breuer and the cantilever chair S 533 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe have received a weather-resistant new finish with the “ThonetProtect®” surface coating. The collection is also especially flexible with multiple versions and options: tubular steel, seats and backrests and cushions can be selected in different hues – creating happy accents in the vibrant colours; while with the more muted tones, they offer a classically elegant flair sympathetic to any environment.

Modernity with a whisper of history: the new solid wood table 1060

Table 1060 by Jorre van Ast is a dynamic example of the synthesis of Thonet’s bentwood heritage with a contemporary, graphic formal language. The individual elements of the base frame are made of solid bentwood and reference the renowned tradition of shaping wood into beautiful furniture at Thonet. A rectangular tabletop with a light-as-air look features rounded corners and rests on a pair of table legs that divide into a reversed V. A slender wooden traverse with curving returns connects the table legs in a sophisticated form. The warmth of wood as a material and the organically flowing lines of the table make it an inviting gathering place whether at home or at the centre of modern conferencing facilities.
A family for the wooden lounge chair 860

After the successful introduction of the lounge chair 860 by Lydia Brodde (Thonet Design Team) last spring, a two-seater bench, a rocking chair and two side tables now join the design series. As is the case with the wooden chair, the new family members are strikingly characterised by the recurring motif of the triangle. The clear lines of the wooden elements form an effective contrast with the soft, comfortable seat cushions. The models are inspired by a historical piece from the Thonet archives and can be optimally arranged in a variety of harmonious ensembles in both private and public spaces.

Spot on! The KUULA, LINON and LUM 50 lamps

With its new lamp collection, Thonet enters the lighting segment and thus rounds off the company’s holistic portfolio: KUULA is a compact, minimalist table lamp designed by Uli Budde, which with its spherical glass head is reminiscent of traditional northern European window sill lamps as much as of the formal language of the Bauhaus era – and the while impressing with cutting-edge technology. The LINON pendant luminaire designed by Andrea Scholz stands out due to its generous, circular, sustainably produced linen lampshade, which is available in two motifs representative of Thonet. With LUM 50, the LUM standing luminaire by Ulf Möller now has a smaller brother: the 50 cm high tubular steel table lamp is equipped with numerous clever functions and beautifully fits in with the timeless Thonet programme due to its clear and reduced design.
