THONET will present itself from 8-11 March 2017 at Design Shanghai 2017 in the heart of the Chinese metropolis. At Contemporary Hall (booth CG-219), the company will exhibit a cross-section of its unique craftsmanship, “made in Germany” since 1819.

Thonet will be a guest from 27 February through 24 March 2017 at the Danish company Gabriel’s Paris showroom on Place de Valois, near the Palais Royal. On 140 m² of floor space, the German company offers an insight into its broad portfolio and traditional history in an innovative, multi-coloured environment. In addition to the famous bentwood and tubular steel classics, contemporary designs for the contract and living sectors play an important role in Paris.

Thonet furnishes Hamburg concert hall with chair range S 160

 

The Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg designed by the Zurich architectural office Herzog de Meuron, which was officially inaugurated in January 2017 with plenty of international interest, fascinates with extraordinary acoustics and its expressive architecture. In addition to the main hall characterised by its “Weinberg architecture”, the concert house also has a smaller hall, which was furnished with Thonet chairs just like the Kaistudio. 760 chairs of range S 160 by Delphin Design provide concert goers with comfortable seating.

In connection with the company’s international growth strategy, Brian Boyd, born in Ireland and former CEO of the furniture manufacturer Klöber, will assume the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Thonet GmbH effective 1 February 2017. He will be supported by Michael Erdelt, Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Norbert Ruf, who joins the company from Dedon in the position of Art Director. Ruf will be responsible for the marketing, communications and product development units.

Multifaceted and playful – at imm cologne 2017, Thonet presents the new side table S 18 by Uli Budde. The circle is the distinguishing element of this design. Reminiscent of an infinite loop, the linear tubular steel frame forms a pendant corresponding to the tabletop and the central motif of the circle. With its sophisticated, clever design, the S 18 opens up new and exciting looks from any perspective.

While at imm cologne and the Salone del Mobile in Milan, the focus was on furniture that allows for the creation of holistic living environments. At Orgatec (25-29 October 2016) Thonet will concentrate on comprehensive working worlds: from open office workspace with a lounge character to the home office with a design standard and the homely conference room. This is the way to make meetings fun: at Orgatec 2016, Thonet presents the sporty and elegant conference chair S 95 with a new return mechanism and an especially developed tilt mechanism, which provides the striking chair with a comfortable cantilever effect. The new return mechanism of the S 95 swivel chair versions ensures that the seat will automatically return to its original position after the user gets up.

The club chair S 830 has been firmly anchored in the Thonet portfolio since the Salone del Mobile 2015. At this year’s Orgatec, the Frankenberg based company presents new frame versions and a writing panel for the striking armchair. The small writing panel can be mounted into the seat shell – on the right or left side – and swivels.

Along with the purchase of an S 411 lounge chair with matching footstool, customers now receive a LUM LED lamp as a free gift from 1 September 2016 through 30 April 2017. There are no limits to individuality: as part of the autumn campaign, the comfortable cantilever classic from the Bauhaus era is available in a wide range of selected fabric covers and one leather version; the LUM is available in various sizes and colours. Combined, they create an excellent place for retreat.

The three new frames of range S 830 are a small yet precisely conceived extension with a big effect. The club chair, which was presented at the Salone del Mobile 2015, gets three new types of frames from designer Emilia Becker that are formally adjusted to the unchanged upholstered shell and reminiscent of some of the company’s famous models.

European consumers have awarded Thonet for its S 64 from the Frankenberg company’s Pure Materials series with the European Consumers Award and an outstanding grade of 9.5. Design, comfort and quality were the criteria consumers used to evaluated products from design and industry. The S 64 scored high in all areas: “It is beautiful, comfortable, timeless, elegant and stylish. This chair looks fantastic anywhere,” stated one of the evaluators.

Berlin-based industrial designers Julia Läufer and Marcus Keichel recently received the commission to design the 330 product family for internationally renowned furniture maker Thonet. The ambience of artists' studios, theatre stages and literary cafés provided the inspiration behind this new chair and table series: spaces where idealistic values play the main role and where usually only a few simple and beautiful objects are on display.

With the new S 180 row seating design, the Berlin-based studio Delphin Design has developed an addition to the S 160 / S 170 product family for seating in public event spaces. The S 180 series is characterised by a sled base that lends the chair a dynamic and distinctive look. The S 180 can be perfectly combined with S 160 and S 170 series since all three designs share the same seat shell.

Originally designed as a custom commission, the superior quality of the 107 chair has now earned a place in the Thonet collection. With this chair, the Paris-based Austrian designer Robert Stadler has created an object that combines elegance and stability with a lightweight feel. The chair was originally designed for the Corso restaurant near the Bastille in Paris, which was opened in the autumn of 2011.

The Barcelona-based design trio of Lievore Altherr Molina has designed a new chair and table series for living and dining interiors under the Thonet label. The 190 chair and the 1190 table were launched at this year's Milan furniture fair. The design is characterized by the tapered wooden legs that lend a dynamic lightness to the classic concept, giving it a young and informal look.

Italian designer Claudio Bellini has designed an elegant chair series for Thonet, for both living and dining areas. The pure form of the 580 upholstered chair was introduced at the Milan furniture fair and complements the already existing 1580 table series. Characteristic of this chair series are the continuous backrest element and the slim, upholstered seat that lays flush on the four-legged chair frame with its graceful, concave legs.
