Armchair and ottoman expand bentwood range 2000

For the Salone del Mobile 2016, Thonet expands its successful lounge range 2000 with the addition of two new elements: the minimalist armchair 2001 and the versatile ottoman 2002 H round out Christian Werner’s sofa range, which was first presented last year. The comfortable trio especially impresses with its harmonious appearance and spatial presence, which not least results from the repeated archetypal identifying characteristics: the almost symbolic yet filigree bentwood bracket wraps around the down-to-the-floor seat cushion and the backrest cushions, which can be flexibly and individually combined, and forms the armrests. The bracket gives the sofa and armchair an especially lightweight look, allowing them to impress as freestanding pieces in any environment.

The large bentwood bracket, as is the case with sofa 2002, forms the basis of the new armchair and seems to embrace the backrest and large seat cushions. However, for constructive and aesthetic reasons, as opposed to the sofa 2002, a second bracket was not used for the armchair 2001. This difference results in an elegant lightness and forms a strong contrast with the armchair’s voluminous cushions and compact overall appearance. The new ottoman, which can also be used as a stool or table, reflects the volume and seams of the seat cushions of the armchair and sofa, allowing for the arrangement of entire lounge landscapes that create a dynamic and harmonious group picture.

The bentwood range 2000 is the perfect place for leaning back and relaxing – in private living rooms or public areas, for example in lounge zones. Designer Christian Werner: “For me, Thonet traditionally stands for overcoming the limitations between the living and contract segments. It was clear to me from the design development stage that range 2000 needed to be made for multifunctional use.”

The solid bentwood of the armchair is available in stained or lacquered beech or in oiled, lacquered or stained ash. The cover can be individually selected, allowing customers to create their own personal favourite piece of furniture.
