Residential Workspace – Merging the worlds of working and living. At Orgatec 2014 the focus lies on the residential aspect of office spaces.

At Orgatec 2014, Thonet is setting a clear course: at the company’s booth (B 041) in hall 9.1 designed by Dick Spierenburg, everything deals with the subject of residential workspaces: “We have realised that the line between work and private life is becoming increasingly blurred in many places with respect to both time and location. This is precisely where our new products and future developments are positioned,” says Managing Director Thorsten Muck. Appropriately, in addition to the cosy design of conference and meeting rooms, the focus is also on applications for the private realm that should represent both a functional and representative workspace. One major issue is individualization: the new sporty and elegant conference chair programme range S 95 as well as the varied and optimised leg versions “Evolution” of the successful table programme range A 1700 both offer numerous design options. The popular chair families S 160, S 170 and S 180 present a unique colour concept for creative furnishing in the contract segment.

The most important new products and product extensions at Orgatec

Randolf Schott’s new conference chair S 95 is characterised by its flowing ergonomic form and the crisp details that provide the chair with a visual lightness and cool elegance. All elements logically combine in a unified whole – as a cantilever chair or in various swivel chair versions. The inlays in the aluminium four-leg base are special eye catchers: made from a wide range of possible materials, they provide each chair with an individual appearance that can be adjusted to the applicable environment or to other furnishings. The table programme range A 1700 “Evolution” with both visually and qualitatively improved leg versions (individual legs and T-leg) now impresses due to the possibility of individualisation through the use of inlays. Interior designers and decision makers gain enormous freedom in planning conference areas; an appropriately designed A 1700, in combination with the adjusted chairs S 95, for example, can now merge into a harmonious overall concept in any space.

The eight new colours for the popular chair families S 160, S 170 and S 180 now offer entirely new design possibilities for open-plan seating, cafeterias or other event venues: Emilia Becker of the Thonet Design Team selected eight adjacent colour shades between blue and red from the large spectrum of the RAL design system that allow for the creation of exciting looks that always seem fresh and new depending on the selection of the colour scheme. Less colourful but instead in noble black and bright white is how the desk S 285 by Marcel Breuer is presented in the “Black or White” edition: the tubular steel frame and wooden parts are lacquered in the same colour. Last but not least, Thonet is presenting an addition to its chair family S 55 this autumn: version S 53 is a classic cantilever chair and flexible all-rounder in both private and public environments.

“Individuality is our standard”
Thonet, however, is reacting to the merging of the working and living worlds in the areas of aesthetics and function with more than just the new products presented at Orgatec. In this context, the custom-tailored solutions are an important aspect, for example for conference areas. Following the motto “Individuality is our standard”, Thonet offers products and solutions that adjust to the most diverse spatial situations and project requirements. Standardised modules can be combined with in-house hand-crafted fabrication resulting in highly individual, customer-specific furniture that is nevertheless affordable.

Long-time best sellers: icons and contemporary chairs for the project business

In addition to the new products, which were especially conceived for the office and open-plan segment, Thonet also banks on well-tried and proven products at Orgatec: bentwood classics such as the famous coffee house chair 214 have been an integral part of many public areas, especially restaurants and cafes, for more than 150 years. The tubular steel icons of the Bauhaus era including the S 32 and S 64 by Marcel Breuer render their services in numerous conference rooms, churches, educational institutions, hotels, waiting areas and restaurants. More recent designs, for example the chair 404 by Stefan Diez and chair 330 by Läufer + Keichel, have also become bestsellers in the contract segment.
